ATLANTA (AP) Georgia's House speaker on Tuesday proposed a $1 billion tax cut that would develop a flat state income tax with a 5. 25% tax rate, raise the quantity of income exempt from taxation and remove numerous deductions. Speaker David Ralston and Home Ways and Means Committee Chairman Shaw Blackmon, both Republicans, said the expense supplies tax relief and simplifies Georgia's tax system."This plan reduces the rate and substantially raises the basic exemption.
It's reasonable, and permits Georgians to keep more of their cash," stated Blackmon, of Bonaire. The changes would start in 2024, implying most taxpayers would see no distinction till they submit their taxes in 2025. Georgia's leading earnings tax rate is now 5. 75%, which applies to income over $7,000 earned by a bachelor or earnings over $10,000 earned by a married couple or a bachelor with dependents.
